Friends of the Family Awarded for Contributions

September 21, 2023

Lethbridge Family Services is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s Friend of the Family awards. Our Friends of the Family have been recognized since 1988, and to date there have been 116 recipients. This community award is presented annually to both an individual and business or group nominee. The awards recognize those who have shown “excellence in service to a family life cause or issue, excellence in direct service to a family or families, and exemplary action on behalf of an individual or distressed family.”

Join Lethbridge Family Services in honouring and celebrating our 2023 recipients:

Individual Award winner: Adli Abu Omar, Petra Pharmacy
Lethbridge Family Services is grateful to Adli Abu Omar for his thoughtful and compassionate pharmaceutical services to newcomers. Adli was a rock of stability throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. He provided steadfast, seamless service, and displayed superb patience and professionalism during a trying time when misinformation and hearsay were common. When vaccine clinics were full, we could always rely on Adli to ensure vaccinations were available to newcomer clients.

Aldi has established a reputation in the immigrant community for delivering honest, trustworthy advice. From working with physicians to alter prescriptions to those covered by the refugee Interim Federal Health (IFH) program to save struggling clients from needing to pay out-of-pocket, to assisting with appointments and pre-empting medical issues before they arise, he is someone we emphatically trust and value every day. Adli goes above and beyond to check in with clients and even delivers medications himself to those who are unable to access transportation or have mobility issues.

Business or Group Award: Stafford Family Dental, led by Dr. Rajesh Grover
The team at Stafford Family Dental are true philanthropists: they exemplify the virtue of good citizenship by taking on all facets of philanthropy as a responsibility to connect with their community and make it a better place. After their initial involvement with LFS during their Give Back Day 2018 which raised nearly $7500 in one day, the team at Stafford Family Dental, led by Dr. Grover, wanted to do more. Since that time, the Stafford Dental partnership has proven to be a catalyst, which has opened doors for LFS and accelerated more innovative and effective partnerships. They not only managed to collect hundreds of dental hygiene products for LFS Angel Tree every year and donated another Give Back Day in 2022, but assisted in connecting their friends and colleagues to sign on to the LFS Angel Tree group of community partners which they also volunteer for. Dr. Rajesh Grover is the principal owner of Stafford Family Dental, where he encourages his entire team to be generous with their time, energy, and kindness….they live their lives with a philanthropic spirit; with purpose and passion. Being from a family of immigrants himself, Dr. Grover is familiar with our newcomers and their need for dental assistance; so much so that Stafford Family Dental has and continues to help our clients today. Sharing is multiplying happiness. It’s creating those little miracles that make a big difference.

Friend of the Family awards will be presented to the award winners by Councillor Belinda Crowson following the Lethbridge Family Services AGM business meeting:

Where: Western Canadian Bank Lounge, ENMAX Centre
Time: Between 5:45 pm and 6:05 pm
