Lethbridge Family Services extends its sincere thanks to the Frank Flaman Foundation and Southland Trailers for their generous donation of $10,000 in support of the organization’s Immigrant Services department.

The Frank Flaman Foundation was created to support and partner with charitable organizations that provide essential support to those in need—both locally and around the world. The Foundation’s mandate is to serve children and families who lack the basic necessities of life. It proudly collaborates with organizations that share this vision. Projects are funded through the Foundation, the Flaman Group of Companies, and private donations from businesses such as Southland Trailers.

The Flaman Foundation’s $10,000 investment will directly support some of the most vulnerable newcomer families in Lethbridge by addressing urgent basic needs and strengthening protective programming for youth. A portion of the funding will be allocated through the Immigrant Services program to provide grocery parcels for families experiencing food insecurity and modest rent supplements for those facing housing instability.

With rental costs continuing to rise in Lethbridge and across the province, even short-term assistance can prevent evictions, reduce financial stress, and help stabilize families during critical transition periods. By ensuring access to food and safe housing, families are better able to focus on employment, language learning, and long-term integration.

The remaining funds will enhance the LFS Girls Group, a culturally responsive program that provides community-based safe spaces for any female youth aged 10–18. Held on Friday afternoons, when youth are most vulnerable to isolation, the program offers structured, enriching activities, including STEM exploration, creative arts, sports, field trips, and reflective journaling. Guided by dedicated mentors, participants build confidence, develop leadership skills, and form meaningful peer relationships. The program encourages healthy self-expression and fosters multicultural pride, helping girls navigate and celebrate both their cultural heritage and their Canadian identity.

Nigel Atwood, Regional Manager for Southern Alberta at the Flaman Group of Companies, states that the Foundation strongly believes in supporting the communities where its employees and customers live and work. “When businesses make giving part of their culture, it strengthens the entire community,” said Atwood. “We’re proud to partner with Lethbridge Family Services and support programs that help families build stability and create brighter futures for their children.”

Scott Sailer, Director of Operations for Southland Trailers, whose company partnered in the donation, says investing in young people is key to the community’s future. “The future of Lethbridge depends on the opportunities we create for young people today,” said Sailer. “Supporting programs that help youth grow in confidence, develop skills, and feel connected to their community is something we’re proud to be part of.”
