Safe & Sensory Space for Individuals with Disabilities

Multi-Sensory Environments (MSEs) can provide a space to meet the needs of our DaCapo Disability Services clients quickly and easily, focused on using sensory equipment to calm, soothe, or stimulate.

“Our Multi-Sensory room is a pivotal component in helping our individuals with disabilities find comfort, develop coping skills, regulate their brain’s response to stimuli, and improve their sensory processing skills.”

—Dianne Kotkas, Director of DaCapo Disability Services

The LFS sensory space is a relaxing space for our DaCapo Disability Services clients to help reduce agitation and anxiety, engage and delight clients, and encourage communication through the use of gentle light, soothing sound, textures, and pleasing artwork and lights.

After ten years of constant use every day, our sensory room needs a major physical and technological upgrade!

If we reach our fundraising goal, we will be able to make cutting-edge renovations to our existing sensory room. To start, every piece of outdated furniture, flooring, and sensory equipment will be replaced. Then, all technological elements in the room will be tied to a central panel. A sunshine theme will turn all the lighting yellow, while an underwater theme will make everything blue. Every piece of equipment will be able to turn on and off individually, so that if someone is sensitive to a certain stimulus, it can easily be deactivated. For example, the speakers can be muted or completely turned off, while keeping other aspects of the room active.

Our vision for our DaCapo sensory room is truly magical—just look at the inspiration images below! With your support, we can create a sophisticated, safe, and emotionally regulating environment for those clients who struggle with anxiety, hypersensitivity, or other sensory concerns.
