How can we help?

Angel Tree Helps over 1700 Kids in 2013

January 23, 2014

Southern Alberta was Full of Angels

Southern Alberta was full of Angels in December with the generosity of the region providing overwhelming support to the Angel Tree for Kids Campaign.  Over 1710 children were given gifts for Christmas through the program in December with the value of gifts being donated estimated between $65-70,000. There were also cash donations provided to the program to help purchase gifts of just over $14,000.

“The support and generosity of Southern Alberta continues to amaze and encourage us each year we run the program.  At the end of November, I counted the requests from the schools and our partnering agencies and we were at 1498 which was an increase over last year and I was a little worried.  By the end of December, the numbers had risen to 1710 and we were able to meet all of those requests due to the giving nature of our donors.” - Tanya Jans, Program Coordinator, Lethbridge Family Services

“We are always excited to partner with Lethbridge Family Services on this campaign as it gives us a direct way to provide for the members in our community that need a little help.  Our staff volunteers to wrap gifts, deliver gifts, and purchase gifts for the program as well as have the trees in all of our branches to help spread the word about the program. We would like to thank our members and everyone that donated to help make this another great year of giving.” - Chad Romeril, Marketing Coordinator, 1st Choice Savings.

The Angel Tree for Kids Campaign was started in 1992 as a way to help families in need make Christmas a little merrier for their children.  It has evolved into the successful program it is today due to the partnership with 1st Choice Savings and all of the other businesses and individuals that help out the program.  This year the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Sunlife Financial, and The Ensuite Bath & Kitchen Showroom were major contributors for providing toys to the program.  There were also trees located at the following businesses;  Canada First Mortgage, Casino Lethbridge, County of Lethbridge, Catwalk Salon, CEP Automotive, Chinook Primary Care, College Lincoln Ford, Curves (South), Family Center, Family Justice, Galko Homes, Gap Factory Outlet, Grower Direct,  Kawneer, Laser’s Aesthetics,  Lethbridge Correctional Institute, Lethbridge Family Services, Lethbridge Hearing Center, LSCO, McKillop Insurance, North & Company, Park Meadows School, RBC (Mayor Magrath & Westside), Schwartz Reliance Insurance, SouthMinster Church, Save on Foods (Northside), Lethbridge Research Center, & The Associates Counselling.
