Operating since 1992, the Angel Tree Campaign is an annual program that collects gifts for children in need, so that everyone has a chance to celebrate a festive season.
A joint initiative of Lethbridge Family Services and 1st Choice Savings, the kick-off of the 2013 program takes place at 10am, Wednesday Nov 20th at the Park Meadows Elementary School, 50 Meadowlark Blvd N.
Lethbridge Family Services has been managing the gathering and distribution of gifts since program inception. CEO Interim Director Sonny Zgurski chairs the Angel Tree committee and comments on the program’s impact in the community. “In spite of a strong economic position in our region, we are still able to identify over 1,200 children in Lethbridge and the surrounding communities who, without this program, may not get a Christmas present this year. Each year, families tell us of the joy and surprise the gifts bring, but also of the sense of hope and comfort provided by the generosity of donors, along with the assurance that, as bleak as present circumstances may be, they are not alone, and that their community cares. So as long as there are children in need, we will continue to champion this program.”
President & CEO of 1st Choice Savings, Brian Kinahan notes their support for Angel Tree began in 2004. “Our employees and customers find it very rewarding to support the Angel Tree Campaign, and it’s very easy for anyone to participate. Simply purchase a gift for the child indicated on your Angel card and return it unwrapped. A tree is located at all 1st Choice Savings branches, and on our website, and we encourage other organizations to host a tree, donate gifts or even consider a cash donation.”
Gifts are collected until Dec 19th, after which a team of volunteers will wrap and deliver them throughout the community.
