Call for Nominations

Lethbridge Family Services (LFS) is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the eighth annual Immigrant Achievement Awards (IAA).

An Immigrant Achievement Award is a valued and prestigious honour that recognizes, celebrates and pays tribute to the exemplary achievements and invaluable contributions of Immigrants to their community, and the wider Canadian society.

Award Categories

LFS is currently accepting nominations in the following five categories:

AWARD

CRITERIA

Youth Achievement To recognize an immigrant youth, 14-25 years of age, who are making a difference in their new community through achievement and/or service, and show great potential as long-term nation builders, in one or more of the following areas:
  • Arts and Culture
  • Sports
  • Community and Volunteer Activity
  • Academics
  • Leadership
Arts, Culture & Recreation To recognize significant contributions by an immigrant in a creative endeavor within one of the following areas that demonstrate an appreciation for cultural awareness:
  • Media or Technological Arts
  • Performing Arts
  • Visual Arts
  • Literary Arts
  • Sports
Leadership  
To recognize an individual who has achieved outstanding success in his/her chosen career path or professional field. This individual will have made significant contributions to our city in the areas of professional achievement, business, community service and/or philanthropic endeavors
 
Organizational Diversity To recognize a business or organization that has championed inclusive hiring practices; shown a commitment to diversity in providing access to advancement and professional development opportunities; and/or significantly helped newcomer employees adjust to the Canadian workplace.
 
Newcomer of Promise To recognize an individual’s growth and success as a newcomer to Canada. A newcomer is an immigrant or refugee who has been in Canada for a short time, usually less than 3 or 5 years.
 



Award Requirements

• Nominated individuals and organizations must reside in Lethbridge or the surrounding area.
• Nominees must hold landed immigrant (Permanent Resident) or citizen status in Canada and must reside in Canada
• Submit nomination(s) via email, google forms or dropped off at our main office: 1107 2 Avenue ‘A’ North, Lethbridge, Alberta.
• Nominations can be made anonymously
• Employees of Lethbridge Family Services are not eligible for nomination

The nomination deadline for the 2017 Immigrant Achievement Award is Friday, August 25, 2017.



Who May Nominate? 

Anyone, including employees of Lethbridge Family Services, may nominate an eligible candidate for an award.

Selection Process

The selection committee reserves the right to move applicants to another award category if they deem appropriate. The committee may consider information submitted with the nomination, as well as information gathered from other relevant sources, to ensure the nominees meet the identified criteria and represent the spirit of the award.

Award recipients will be announced at the IAA awards night, held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. at the Canadian Western Bank Lounge, Enmax Centre.

About Immigrant Achievement Awards (IAA)

Honouring Immigrant, Contemporary History-Makers

Founded in 2009, each year, Lethbridge Family Services hosts one of the most anticipated and prestigious events to celebrate diversity and the positive contributions of immigrants to Lethbridge and their community.  

Immigrant Achievement Award recipients represent the countless accomplished immigrants who have brought remarkable achievements and stories to this great city of ours.

Over the last seven years, 47 outstanding individuals, businesses, and organizations have been chosen for these aspirational awards for their inspiring contributions to Lethbridge.
