Our Settlement Workers in Schools program helps students at school and at home, supporting youth and their families understand and succeed in Canadian schools.
Youth Settlement Services connects youth to their community and encourages relationship and skill building through summer camps, field trips, orientations and more!
What We Offer
- Assessment of student needs and help achieving goals
- Activities to learn about classes, getting to school safely, and how to succeed in school
- Help for students about questions about friends, jobs, the community and more
- Help for parents registering their children for school, paying school fees, and talking to teachers
- We can attend parent teacher meetings with parents
- Continued contact with newcomer students and their families throughout the year
- We can arrange for interpreters and translation services when required
- Ongoing assistance to help parents communicate with schools, including translation services
- Supports for teachers, staff, children and community services providers to learn more about working with immigrant youth, assist with registration, facilitate parent meetings, meet with students to resolve issues, and arrange interpretation/ translation services when needed
- Summer and out of school camps and activities for all ages including skill-building lessons
- Orientations and field trips in the community
- Help getting to know the community and meet new friends
Eligibility
- Between the ages of 3 and 25
- A permanent resident or your parents are permanent residents
