COVID-19 Social Services Supports Update
The City of Lethbridge has been working with community partners to identify areas of need for the community during this crisis. Approximately 16 subcommittees have been formed to address and support the community during the pandemic.
Focusing on activity-based resources for youth and families, one subcommittee has been busily compiling lists of healthy and active boredom-busters to share with the community. This group, led by Lethbridge Family Services Immigrant Services Department Manager, Kristina Larkin, includes staff and/or volunteers from the Lethbridge Early Years Coalition, Boys & Girls Club of Lethbridge, and Sweetgrass Youth Alliance. These organizations represent community groups currently working with children, youth and families.
As part of the Active Community Strategy the City participated in in 2012, the website www.activelethbridge.ca was created with support from the City of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Sport Council, Alberta Health Services, and Be Fit For Life. This website has been the best resource in the community for individuals and families to find organizations offering active living opportunities, to identify where parks are in the community and what activities are allowed at each one and to learn about healthy eating resources available. A blog on that website has been populated with information on upcoming events and resources that promote active and healthy living.
The use of this resource has seen information shared for different age groups and for ideas of things that can be done at home. The City has supported this as an opportunity to try to locate this information in one, easy to find location.
Starting later this week, updates will be provided by this subcommittee, along with the regular information which is contributed to by Alberta Health Services, City of Lethbridge, Be Fit For Life and Lethbridge Sport Council.
We invite the community to regularly check the website for new and fun ways to stay active and engaged during these uncertain times. If residents have ideas or suggestions to add to the resource, they can be added by Kristina at klarkin@lfsfamily.ca.
